About the Profit / Loss Calculator
This tool computes gross P&L, total trading fees, net P&L, and ROI% for any long or short trade. Gross P&L is (exit − entry) × quantity for a long (reversed for a short); net P&L subtracts the maker/taker fee charged on both the entry and exit notional. Use it before you place a trade to confirm the move is worth the fees, or after closing to record your true result.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate profit or loss on a trade?
Gross P&L = (exit price − entry price) × quantity for a long, or (entry price − exit price) × quantity for a short. Net P&L subtracts total fees (entry and exit), so net = gross − fees. ROI% = net P&L ÷ position value × 100.
Does this calculator include trading fees?
Yes. Pick an exchange preset or enter your own maker/taker rate, and the calculator charges the fee on both the entry and exit notional, then reports total fees and a fee-adjusted net P&L and ROI%.
How is ROI% different from raw P&L?
Raw P&L is the dollar gain or loss, while ROI% expresses net P&L as a percentage of the position value you put in. ROI% lets you compare trades of different sizes on an equal footing.
