About the Position Size & Risk Calculator

This calculator turns a fixed-risk rule into an exact trade. It computes position size as (account size × risk %) ÷ the stop distance (entry − stop), then shows the notional value, the required margin at your leverage, and the 1R/2R/3R target prices for long or short setups. Use it before every entry so each trade risks the same controlled fraction of your account regardless of how tight or wide your stop is.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate position size from risk?
Position size = (account size × risk %) ÷ stop distance, where stop distance is the difference between your entry and stop-loss price. The calculator returns the size in units, plus the notional value and required margin at your leverage.
How much should I risk per trade?
Most traders risk 1–2% of account equity per trade so a string of losses can't wipe them out. Enter your own account size and risk % above to see the exact dollar amount and the position size it allows.
What are 1R, 2R and 3R targets?
R is your initial risk — the distance from entry to stop. A 1R target is one stop-distance in profit, 2R is twice that, and 3R is three times. The calculator projects these target prices for both long and short trades.
